With a design legacy going back to the headiest of track-only Mustangs and a price tag well over a quarter of a million dollars, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of street-legal racecar technology. From its vented front fenders to its stylish taillights, it redefines American muscle. It even puts its hoofprints in the history books.
The Fastest Production Mustang Ever Built
With a supercharged, 5.2-liter V8 roaring under the hood, the 2025 Mustang GTD is the fastest production-line Mustang ever built. It offers a staggering 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, with a redline north of 7500 rpm for incredible power. In fact, the GTD’s engine is far more powerful than even the GT3 racecar, which offers around 500 horsepower even with a 5.4-liter power plant.
That massive motor lets the Mustang GTD hit a maximum speed of 202 miles per hour when equipped with the available Drag Reduction System, making it the fastest production Mustang ever offered. Ford beefed up the motor’s performance with a dry sump oil system, the first ever fitted to a roadgoing pony car, reducing oil starvation and increasing oil reliability while performing high-G maneuvers.
The Fastest Production Car in Nürburgring History
With the Mustang GTD, Ford took aim at a sub-7 second lap time at the notoriously grueling 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife track. The previous record for an American production car was 7:01.30, set in 2017. But the Mustang GTD took the record in December 2024 with a lap time of 6:57.685, proving its track chops beyond any doubt and stamping its mark into racing history.
Grabs the Pavement, Refuses to Let Go
The available semi-active suspension features a unique short-length front arm, adding lateral stiffness and enhanced kinematics in high-speed cornering. A dual ride height raises or lowers by almost 40mm to adjust to the track or the roadway. Gravity gets an assist from the standard carbon fiber aero wing, which is mounted to the C-pillar and helps keep the vehicle firmly planted on terra firma.
High-Tech Materials = Perfectly Weighted Mustang
From the forged carbon ceramic brakes to the available titanium Akrapovič exhaust, the Mustang GTD is stocked with high-strength, low-weight materials to enhance its performance. The driveshaft itself is even made of carbon fiber, and connects the low, center-mounted engine to the 8-speed rear transaxle, distributing weight close to the pavement and offering extremely responsive handling.
If carbon fiber and aluminum sound like materials you’d find in a fighter jet, you’re right. Ford even went so far as to buy materials from a retired F-22 Raptor to make the available titanium shift paddles and series placard.
The GTD may be available by application only, but Mustang performance can had right at your fingertips. Test drive a 2025 Mustang today at Anderson & Koch Ford in North Branch, MN, and discover just how much fun a Mustang can be.
